Hawaiian Historical Drama Headed to AppleTV+

Apple TV+, riding high on the waves created by its historic 2022 Oscar win, has announced a new limited series with some star power behind it. Chief of War, will feature actor Jason Momoa, who will reportedly be involved in many other facets of the project as well.
The streaming giant is awash in the success it achieved with CODA, a drama that highlighted the struggle inherent in being the only hearing Child Of Deaf Adults. So, it’s no surprise that the producers aren’t afraid to tackle culturally sensitive projects with passionate storytellers at the helms.
Not much is known about the Chief of War project right now, except that it will be a limited series that will offer what the studio has branded an “epic and unprecedented telling of the unification and colonization of Hawaii from an indigenous point of view.”
Chief of War was created by Momoa and Thomas Pa’a Sibbett, and Apple TV+ has announced that the show will have eight episodes.
According to Deadline, the Game of Thrones/Aquaman actor will executive produce, write, and star in the series, which demonstrates his unique commitment for the project and the series topic.
Showrunner Doug Jones has been tapped to helm the upcoming show, and he is expected to join Momoa, Sibbett, Francis Lawrence, Peter Chernin, Jenno Topping, and Erik Holmberg as an executive producer.
Many fans may be excited by the announcement that Momoa, who is of Hawaiian descent, will also write for the series, although he has never written for television before. He does have a well-documented passion for this subject and doubtlessly the project.
In the meanwhile, Momoa appears in another Apple TV+ show. He currently stars in the Apple Tv’s dystopian drama See, that is headed into its third season.
Momoa will also appear on the big screen in the upcoming Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom which releases in 2023, and he is also set to play the villain in the next installment of the Fast & Furious franchise (Fast & Furious 10). It’s certainly a busy time for the actor, and fans are sure to appreciate the variety in Momoa’s projects.
Apple TV and Momoa’s Chief of War and the important story the series will tell is another example of how aggressively the streaming juggernaut has embraced its production role.
