Updated: Apr 1, 2022

“He’s given the world a lot of exciting movies and for that, I think we can all say, ‘Thanks Bruce and Yippee Ki Yay Mother F*%*@r’”

As fans around the world are still processing the news that blockbuster super star Bruce Willis is retiring from the film business for health reasons, Hollywood too is reacting to the news. With more than 145 films and television shows to his credit, Willis shared the screen with a ton of Hollywood elites and character actors from screen legends like Alan Rickman and Samuel L. Jackson to prominent starlets like Kim Bassinger and even his ex-wife and friend Demi Moore.

HWWS WebTV Alumnus and actor William Sadler, famed for his appearances in The Shawshank Redemption, Marvel’s Iron man 3, Bill & Ted’s Bogus Journey and many more, was one such costar. Sadler starred alongside Willis in Die Hard 2, the film franchise's first sequel.

In an exclusive statement to HWWS WebTV, Sadler remarked, “I was already a fan of Bruce and the first Die Hard when I was cast opposite him in Die Hard 2. I was excited get to work with him on what promised to be a huge action summer blockbuster. I found him easy to work with.”

The news of Willis diagnosis with aphasia, a condition that limits and even destroys one’s ability to understand or express themselves using language, broke Wednesday March 30 with the release of a statement signed by Willis's family.

“As a family we wanted to share that our beloved Bruce has been experiencing some health issues and has recently been diagnosed with aphasia, which is impacting his cognitive abilities,” the statement read.

Sadler responded to the news and said, “I’m sorry to hear that he’s not well and I hope he enjoys his retirement. He’s given the world a lot of exciting movies.”

In their statement the family wrote, “We are moving through this as a strong family unit, and wanted to bring his fans in because we know how much he means to you, as you do to him.

As Bruce always says, “Live it up” and together we plan to do just that.”

Sadler went on to share an anecdote from the on-screen pairing.

“In our first scene, which was our chance meeting in the airport,” he said. “He took his shoes off so that I would appear taller in the shot. That’s not something every movie star will do to help the scene or their fellow actor.”

Sadler continued to talk about one of the pair’s most memorable scenes as well, writing, “Our fight scene on the wing of the plane was grueling but great fun.”

While family members remember Willis motto as “Live it up,” Sadler and many fans recall yet another famous saying from the actor that somehow captures the same sentiment and swagger of Willis.

Sadler wrote, “He’s given the world a lot of exciting movies and for that, I think we can all say, ‘Thanks Bruce and Yippee Ki Yay Mother F*%*@r’”

This is a sentiment that the Interwebs has been sharing exuberantly across social media!
